The Blue Lodge Room

In Freemasonry the fundamental body of its members is referred to as the Blue Lodge. This is where a man receives his Entered Apprentice (1st), Fellow Craft (2nd), and Master Mason (3rd) degrees. No other part of Masonry is accessible to him until he has received these first three degrees.
All lodges hold their meetings in the “lodge room” or “blue lodge room” of their temple or lodge building.  It may be grand and spacious or small and humble. Around the world every blue lodge room is essentially laid out the same except for the size, proportion, and décor of the room.
Still, it commands a reverential respect and protocol not unlike a church sanctuary. The Altar is in the middle facing East.  The Holy Bible is always opened during meetings or when degrees are being conferred and closed otherwise.  The Master is always seated in center of the East wall, with his officers seated in their respective stations and places as shown at right.
